ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The Cairns Adventure Film Festival, now in its third year, is Australia’s ONLY adventure film festival that celebrates specifically Australasian and SE Asian-themed adventure films. Be it films made in Australasia or SE Asia, about these regions or by people from these regions – it’s all about celebrating the depth of talent and love of adventure that resides under the southern sun.
We’re looking for stories and narratives – tales that connect with a viewer and move through from the idea of a challenge through events as they happen to a conclusion – all in the outdoors. We’re looking for characters – people, adventurers that we’d want to know about, and a look into their lives and what they do and how they achieve it. And yes, we’re looking for killer shots, vision of people doing amazing things caught on camera that will blow us away.
The organisers of CAFF are adventure and extreme sports enthusiasts and keen camera people themselves. We have a love for the great outdoors and those that get out there and push themselves to the limit in these environments.
Respect for the natural world is number one on our agenda but we do not want to pigeon hole what adventure means. This is why we welcome films featuring street sports such as skating and urban activities such as free running or parkour.
MISSION & OBJECTIVE
To showcase Australasian, East and South-East Asian adventure sports and adrenaline-filled short films created by enthusiasts from all experience levels and sporting backgrounds. A competition that provides an opportunity, for people of all ages, to edit and produce a film featuring adventure activities and/or action sports. The film festival is part of the Cairns Airport Adventure Festival, making the audience experience an immersive one and showcasing the outdoor activities available in the beautiful Tropical North Queensland region.

CAFF intends to tour the best films of the festival to several locations around Australia, New Zealand and Europe in mid to late 2012. All film makers will be advised prior to this tour and relevant permission will be sought. We encourage all film makers selected to allow CAFF to include their film so we can increase the profile of CAFF and the adventure films shown to an international level.
